Thomas Buhrfiend, a York High School senior, is running a service project to collect books for nonprofits such as Operation Paperback, African Library Project, SCARCE, Open Books and more. As of this month, he has collected 2,000 adult, teen and children's books through neighborhood canvassing, estate sales and library donations. He hopes to collect over 5,000 books for charities by mid-October. If anyone in Elmhurst has books they no longer need, and would like to give them a renewed purpose, reach out to Buhrfiend at: thomasb.books@gmail.com, or via text at: (224)-404-1489 to schedule a home pickup. Buhrfiend said he is happy to assist with carrying boxes of books out of the home, if needed. (Submitted photo)
