Last week, I was going north on West Road and some guy on a bicycle just rushed past me going west from the Great Western Trail, not even slowing down at the intersection or looking both ways for cars. With all the trees at that trail, I didn’t even see him until he zipped into the street. And I was not speeding. I honked but he just waved at me! Guess he didn’t want to lose his momentum but if I had hit him, he would have lost more than that—sustained some broken bones and maybe a wrecked bicycle. The stop signs there are not a suggestion, and bikers and pedestrians are obligated to follow the rules.

I have been reading about the secretary of state’s effort to get insurance companies to be held accountable for the way they calculate rates, like raising our rates because of some out-of-state disaster, or using our credit score and other non-driving criteria. The bill also proposes a 30-day notice if an insurer is going to raise rates by more than 10 percent. However, that doesn’t go far enough. Why allow such a rate increase? I have a near-perfect driving record, no tickets for probably 30 years and even have a good credit score, which really shouldn’t be a factor at all. I always pay my insurance bill on time, so the rest of my bills are none of their concern. But to pay for some other place’s disasters either for home or auto is not fair. I hope the governor signs it, though.

More about “what Trump has done.” He has implemented a violent deportation program against parents and grandparents of U.S. citizens. Then, he's having these human beings held in horrible conditions in for-profit detention centers so his buddies can make a lot of money. He's cozied up to Putin and Netenyahu, and now is running another unauthorized war; with some serious unintended consequences. And even though the price of gas and pretty much everything else has gone up dramatically, he's stated that is not a concern for him. His tariff policies have caused a record number of bankruptcies and worldwide trade disruptions. I sure would not want to be a farmer—can't sell your crops, and now can't get fertilizer. And speaking of his rich buddies, they are all doing great! Biggest tax cut for them ever, and good times roll with the stock market in record territory. So, all good if you are rich and human suffering is fine with you.

The transgender activists have hijacked the LGB rights movement. A transgender identity, which is about who you feel you are inside, is nothing like sexual orientation, which is about the bodies that attract you. A phenomenon previously seen mostly in older males is suddenly exploding in vulnerable and overly-online young people. Are all of them “born in the wrong body”? Is it all perfectly healthy and normal? What are the odds that those “born in the wrong body” are so often autistic or same-sex-attracted or anxious/depressed or were abused as children or have friends claiming trans identities, and that the solution to their distress is to give cross-sex hormones and/or remove body parts? And that this new identity is stable and permanent, in spite of all we know about adolescent development? More likely: During a turbulent time—both developmentally and culturally—these distressed kids are offered a silver bullet diagnosis and solution, and so they grasp at this life raft, which will also bring them attention, the valor of victimhood, and a shiny new “community” that celebrates them. Medical “gender transition” for youth is not a human right—it is child abuse.

In the May 21 edition of Speak Out, someone asks, “Why would we want the government to raid a facility caring for children or disabled people?” Wake up! We the people are skeptical that these so-called facilities are caring for a single child or disabled person. Criminals have stolen millions, if not billions, of dollars by fraudulently claiming to be helping or feeding people in need. Have you read about the federal charges in the autism fraud scheme in Minnesota? Have you read about the woman in Minnesota who was sentenced to more than 40 years in prison for bilking taxpayers out of $250 million that was meant to feed hungry kids? There's a ton of fraud out there, and Democrats in state governments are looking the other way. Are we supposed to believe the governor, attorney general and other officials in Minnesota had no idea what was going on? Would anyone be shocked if the same racket was going on in Illinois?

Did you know there are 76 food pantries in DuPage County? Yes, 76. You can access them through the DuPage 211 website. No one should be hungry in DuPage and no one should be panhandling for food/money to feed their family.

To the responder of Speak Out’s May 28 edition of me calling No Kings Rally participants “idiots.” No, I did not miss the point. Plus, you requested that I “feel free to give additional suggestions about how best to participate in our tenuous democracy.” Okay, you asked, so listen up. First, these are not “additional suggestions,” as I have given none previously. Only my opinions, which of course I am entitled to. Get involved. Start at the local school boards, the library boards (look at your tax bill itemizations), be a precinct captain, knock on doors, go to your city/village town halls. Examine and challenge your tax bills. I did, and got mine reduced over 2K. Challenge your useless betters (state representatives, state senators, congresspersons) when you don’t agree with them. I am in the process of preparing to leave Illinois. I see the writing on the wall—that this mess of a state will never be repaired in my lifetime. I’ll be leaving to go to a free state, where one can live in contentment without fear of additional tumultuous tax burdens spawning from ridiculous policies that our elected officials will/have enact(ed). I hope this helps with your request.

We have to ask publicly, why our Democratic Party lets the far left take over the Democratic establishment. The party has become anti-American when they keep calling our late leaders bad names and go on international TV to downgrade everything our leaders do. It’s obvious it is more communist influence than we want to admit. All American patriots lose when we stand divided and can’t negotiate as one nation. Thank you.

Hey, Villa Park and Lombard. You want to help the people out? Stop the price gouging. There is price gouging in the stores and there’s major price gouging at the gas stations. You go one block they’re charging $4.97 for gas; you go at the other end of the block they’re charging $4.56. There’s a problem, and you guys aren’t doing anything.

Hi, this is the Flower Lady calling and I just want to suggest to people that there’s so many beautiful flowers and these places like Jewel outside in the tents and an Ace and you go by houses and there’s nothing in the front; just bushes. I mean, come on, it doesn’t take too much to get these flowers before they get thrown in the trash. How about getting one or two and putting them out there? It’s really, really nice to see them. Okay, thanks.

It’s fun to be a Cubs or Sox fan if most of your teams win. If one of your team goes to the World Series you’d think all fans would show support for Chicago. In politics people should support America before they are Democrat or Republican.

I noticed I’m getting more snail mail from Darren Bailey and his running mate, urging us to Fire Pritzker. I’d like nothing more than to get rid of JB Pritzker. He’s destroying this state with his unchecked spending, regulations and taxes. Sadly, I think Darren Bailey is a lousy candidate, and I have little to no confidence he will unseat Pritzker. Bailey was soundly defeated four years ago. I think Pritzker won by 12 points. What makes anyone think the outcome will be different this time around, especially in a state run by leftists who have a supermajority in Springfield and with all the anti-Trump sentiment going into the midterms?

Hey I agree: you can’t give a monkey a machine gun, so then why did we give one to Trump? Not only does he have a machine gun but he’s got nukes and a bunch of other craziness. He’s our cuckoo bird in chief. Bye-bye now.

Hi, this is about the Memorial Day by the big rock in Lombard Common Park, the memorial ceremony. Two comments: Where were the cannons? People were asking why didn’t they bring the cannons? And two, why not move the tent closer to the parking lot or closer by the big rock? We had some older men who could not get to the tent so they just took off. An older lady drove them there but they could not get there. The tent used to be in front of the rock. Could they please move it next year? Thank you.

I got a happy birthday message in my email box from Sean Casten. Thanks, Sean, but I’m still voting for your opponent in the November election because your act of being a radical leftist shill in Washington is growing old.
