Glenbard East’s girls tennis team won the first conference or division title in program history on Friday, Oct. 9. The Rams compiled a first-place team total of 80 points in the Upstate Eight Conference East Division Meet, which concluded on Glenbard East’s courts in Lombard. Glenbard South finished second in the seven-team division meet’s standings with its total of 74 points.
The Rams’ champions in the meet included the No. 2 doubles team of seniors Jenna Pope and Marija Cheeks. Glenbard East’s No. 3 doubles duo of seniors Ava Ebner and Grace Sabourin also delivered a first-place finish at the meet, as did the Rams’ No. 4 doubles tandem of senior Audrey Tragasz and junior Emma Ratajczak.
Ebner and Sabourin clinched the division title for the Rams by prevailing 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 over a Glenbard South duo in what turned out to be the meet’s decisive No. 3 doubles flight’s championship match. If the Raiders prevailed in that match, Glenbard South would have captured the division title.
