As the nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of American independence, the Bensenville Park District is inviting residents to show their patriotic spirit by marching alongside the district in the annual Village of Bensenville Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4.
The community tradition will step off at 10 a.m. from Bensenville Village Hall and travel south on York Road to Jefferson Street before continuing east to the Redmond Recreation Complex on John Street.
In honor of the nation's semiquincentennial celebration, the park district welcomes in-district residents of all ages to join its parade float and help commemorate 250 years of freedom, community and civic pride. Participants will receive a free commemorative T-shirt, funded in part by The UPS Store of Bensenville-Wood Dale, and will assist in distributing candy and information about the district's summer programs, events and activities.
"The LibertyFest Parade is a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together and celebrate both our community and our country's 250-year history," said Bensenville Park District Special Services Manager Phyllis Schmidt. "We're proud to participate in this annual tradition and grateful to The UPS Store for its continued support of park district programs, events and veterans’ initiatives."
Residents interested in marching with the park district can download a participation form at BvilleParks.org/LibertyFest. Participants should report to the parade staging area at 13 S. Center St. in Bensenville by 8:30 a.m.
The parade is free and open to the public. Festivities are expected to conclude around 11:30 a.m. Individuals with questions or who require special accommodations should contact Schmidt at pschmidt@bvilleparks.org or 630-238-4921 by July 1.
Following the parade, veterans are invited to cool off at the Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad, open noon to 5 p.m., where they will receive free admission. Park patrons are also encouraged to visit the park district's booth during the Village of Bensenville’s LibertyFest activities at Redmond Park between 6 and 9 p.m. before enjoying the evening's fireworks celebration at 9:30 p.m.
