What will you do with your pumpkin after Halloween? Drop off your jack-o-lantern to be composted at Villa Park’s annual Pumpkin Smash, which will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 7, in the parking lot behind Villa Park Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2801 at 39 E. St. Charles Road.
Come to smash your own pumpkin, or have a volunteer smash it for you. All of the pumpkins that are dropped off will be composted. Composting pumpkins keeps waste out of our landfills, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and creates a natural fertilizer for our soils.
Remove candles and decorations from your pumpkins before bringing them to the Pumpkin Smash.
This event is sponsored by Go Green Villa Park in conjunction with SCARCE (School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education), and also in partnership with Villa Park VFW Post 2801 and Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS).
