The Bensenville Park District invites adults ages 21 and older to make the most of the final weeks of summer with a full lineup of Young at Heart trips, social gatherings and dining experiences scheduled from August through Labor Day, offering opportunities to explore new places, reconnect with friends and enjoy the season before autumn arrives.
The August lineup begins with two popular outings. On Wednesday, Aug. 5, participants will travel to Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Michigan, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The trip includes round-trip transportation, a $10 food voucher and $15 in slot play, giving guests plenty of opportunities to enjoy gaming, dining and time with friends. Valid identification is required. The fee is $30 or $25 for in-district patrons.
The fun continues Friday, Aug. 7, with a Farmers Market Crawl from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Schaumburg, where participants will browse fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted items and other local favorites while exploring one of the area's vibrant community markets. The fee is $25 or $20 for in-district patrons.
On the trip to Groot Industries from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in Elk Grove Village, participants will tour the recycling facility for a behind-the-scenes look at how recyclable materials are sorted, processed and prepared for reuse before taking part in a question-and-answer session about sustainability. The fee is $25 or $20 for in-district patrons.
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, participants will travel to Chicago for a day at the Museum of Science and Industry from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The excursion features interactive exhibits, historic artifacts, cutting-edge technology displays and the Anne Frank exhibit. Lunch is included. The fee is $75 or $70 for in-district patrons.
Young at Heart continues Monday, Aug. 17, with Picnic in the Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunrise Park. Guests will enjoy a catered boxed lunch, refreshments, dessert and relaxing conversation under the park's shaded shelter while taking in the beauty of summer. The fee is $20 or $18 for in-district patrons.
The sweet fun continues Tuesday, Aug. 18, with a trip to Long Grove Confectionery from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will enjoy a guided tour featuring candy-making demonstrations, samples of signature treats and time to browse the gift shop before stopping for lunch on their own at Portillo's. The fee is $25 or $20 for in-district patrons.
Lunch Bunch & Bingo returns from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the Oak Room at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. The afternoon will feature sausage and peppers served with fresh French bread, green salad, broccoli and carrots, followed by bingo and socializing. The registration fee of $13 or $11 for in-district patrons is due by Aug. 14.
The celebration of summer continues with a Corn Roast from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, in the Oak Room at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. Guests will enjoy fresh, hot roasted corn served with butter and salt while relaxing with refreshing beverages, lively music and plenty of conversation. The festive afternoon offers a fun way to celebrate the season with friends before summer comes to a close. The fee is $10 or $8 for in-district patrons.
On Friday, Aug. 28, participants can enjoy an afternoon of friendly competition during the Puttshack and Shopping trip from noon to 5 p.m. The outing includes nine holes of interactive mini golf at Puttshack Oak Brook, appetizers and free time to explore the shops and outdoor atmosphere at Oakbrook Center. The fee is $70 or $65 for in-district patrons.
