York sophomore-to-be Patel first in six IJGA girls golf events

Three Elmhurst residents rank in IJGA boys top 40 rankings

Maya Patel, a sophomore-to-be at York and a 2025 Class 2A state qualifier, is ranked fourth in the 14-15 age division with 2,337.50 points in 13 IJGA events on the strength of six either solo or shared first-place finishes.

Patel won the Playing Member Stroke Play No. 11 at Crystal Woods Golf Club in Woodstock with a 2-over-par 74. She won the PM Stroke Play No. 18 at Marengo Ridge Golf Club with a 1-over 73, as well as the PM Stroke Play No. 20 at Lake Bluff Golf Club with a 13-over 85.

Patel also won the CEJA Qualifier at Oak Brook Golf Club with a 5-over-par 77, took first in the PM Stroke Play No. 45 at Prairie Isle in Prairie Grove with an even-par 72 and tied for first at the PM Stroke play No. 22 at Winnetka Golf Club with a 10-over 81.

Patel took second at the PM Stroke Play No. 4 event at Sanctuary Golf Club in New Lenox with an 8-over-par 80.

Fellow Elmhurst resident Madison Cotey is ranked 10th with 1,547 points in her nine IJGA events. Cotey won the PM Stroke Play No. 3 event at Cary Country Club with a 7-over-par 80.

Cotey, a 2030 high school graduate, finished tied for third at the Summer Junior Elite Event No. 1 at Buffalo Grove Golf Club with a two-round total of 148 (3-over 76 and 1-under 72).

She also finished fourth at the Summer Junior Elite Event No. 4 at Old Orchard Country Club in Mt. Prospect with a two-round total of 149 (5-over-par 75 and 4-over-par 74).

Cotey was fifth at the Players Challenge No. 4 at Highland Woods in Hoffman Estates with a two-round total of 151 (5-over 77 and 2-over 74) and took sixth at the Summer Junior Elite Event No. 2 at Glenview Park in Glenview with a two-round total of 112 (5-over-par 75 and 37).

IJGA Boys Golf

Three Elmhurst residents have enjoyed success this summer on the Illinois Junior Golf Association boys 16-18 division circuit.

York senior-to-be Gage Jacobs was ranked 22nd in the 16-18 points standings through the end of last weekend. Jacobs had 6,200 points in eight IJGA events.

Jacobs tied for third at the Players Challenge No. 1 event at Countryside Golf Club in Mundelein after shooting a two-round total of 143 (2-under 70 and 1-over 73).

Jacobs also finished fifth at the Players Challenge No. 8 at Whitetail Ridge in Yorkville with a two-round total of 142 (2-over 73 and 2-under 69), and tied for fifth at The Kevin Steelman Invitational at Old Wayne in West Chicago. Jacobs shot a 1-under 71 at Old Wayne.

In the MAGT event at Countryside, Jacobs finished sixth with a two-round total with 140 (4-under 68 and even-par 72).

Elmhurst resident and Niles Northridge Prep junior-to-be Brenden Sherman was ranked 29th in the 16-18 point rankings with 5,422.50 points in nine IJGA events.

For Sherman, he took second at the PM Stroke Play No. 32 event at Midlane Country Club in Wadsworth with an even-par round of 72. He tied for second at the PM  Stroke Play No. 23 event at Crystal Lake Country Club with a 2-over-par 73.

Sherman was fourth at the PM Stroke Play No. 18 at Marengo Ridge Golf Club with a 6-over 78. Sherman was fifth at the MAJGT event at Klein Creek in Winfield with a two-round total of 144 (4-over 76 and 4-under 68).

Sherman tied for eighth at the PM Stroke Play No. 8 at Deerpath in Lake Forest with a 10-over-par 80.

Elmhurst resident Parker Gacek, a junior-to-be at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, was ranked 36th in the 16-18 point standings with 5,501.83 points in six IJGA outings.

While Gacek ranks 36th in the rankings, he does hold three victories either solo or shared in his six outings.

Gacek won the PM Stroke Play No. 32 event at Midlane Country Club in Wadsworth with a 3-under-par 69.

Gacek tied for first at both the PM Stroke Play No. 9 event at Mt. Prospect Golf Club and the PM Stroke Play No. 15 event at Buffalo Grove Golf Club.

Gacek shot a 4-over 74 at Mt. Prospect and a 2-under-par 70 at Buffalo Grove.

Additionally, Gacek tied for fourth at the PM Stroke Play No. 7 event at Phillips Park Golf Club in Aurora with a 4-over-par 75.
