York boys lacrosse coach Tom Coyne likes what he sees.
The Dukes were 4-3 overall through their first seven games of the 2026 season and stood at 1-1 in West Suburban Conference action in the early going of that slate.
In recent non-conference action, the Dukes lost 11-7 to New Trier and defeated Neuqua Valley 9-6. York also dropped a close 9-8 WSC contest to Downers Grove North.
“The team has improved in all phases since the start of our season in March,” Coyne said.
Coyne noted the team is being led offensively by attackmen Josh Reddick and Marco Litton, along with midfielders Max Cahill and Col Bartlett.
On the defensive side of the team, Roman Donofrio continues to impress in goal, Coyne said, while Aaron Park and Michael Barton have been holding down the defense in front of Donofrio.
Coyne pointed out that Donofrio and Cahill “are two of the best freshmen to play for the Dukes and have filled roles from Day 1,” he said.
Transfer student Litton on attack has given York much-needed offensive power, Coyne added.
Looking ahead, Coyne said during a current 30-day stretch, the Dukes will play six of the top 10 teams in the state, “including all of the current top five and we have three games left against conference foes that are all undefeated,”
he pointed out.
York played Palatine Fremd earlier this week and will host Lyons Township Thursday in a WSC contest before welcoming Lake Forest to town Saturday for a 10 a.m. contest at Clarence D. East Field.
Fremd was 6-5 overall through late last week but was undefeated in its conference play. Lyons Township was 9-1 through late last week and ranked No. 5 in the state by one online statistical service, while Lake Forest sported an 8-1 mark and a No. 2 Illinois state ranking.
