On Monday evening, July 6, a woman was fatally struck by an outbound Metra Union Pacific train No. 51 in Lombard. The incident occurred in an area near East Parkside Avenue and South Stewart Avenue, east of the Lombard Metra station.
As of Monday, July 13, the DuPage County Coroner's Office has not yet publicly released the identity or autopsy results of the woman killed.
There was a large police presence in the area after the incident as police conducted an investigation near the railroad tracks. According to Metra, inbound and outbound train movement was stopped, and delays were expected. Traffic also was stopped near the tracks along North Grace Street and East St. Charles Road.
Metra police didn’t immediately respond to a request by the Lombardian for any update or additional information on the incident.
Update on June 7 domestic related homicide in Lombard
A Lombard Police Department investigation confirmed that an early-morning June 7 incident during which 27-year-old Dr. Alexis L. Fletcher was killed was a domestic related homicide.
The homicide occurred at an apartment building at 50 Yorktown. Fletcher, a Lombard resident, was a new graduate of Doctor of Physical Therapy from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago. During her training, she completed clinical rotations at Advocate Health Care, Ascension, and Midwest Orthopedics at Rush.
The suspect, 28-year-old Gianni Newell, also of Lombard, was located later that day in a Cook County suburb and found dead.
“It does appear that he committed suicide,” said Lombard Police Chief Joe Grage.
Grage said there had been at least one prior domestic-related incident between them, and they were in each other’s company at the time of the murder.
“It was definitely a domestic incident that involved only those two parties,” he said.
There was no active order of protection in this case, Grage added, but Newell was on pre-trial release for a domestic battery that occurred in May.
