Waves finish their regular season by edging Carol Stream

Lombard defeats the Dolphins 320-315; some Waves will swim in the Red Division ‘B’ Meet in Bartlett

The Lombard Waves completed their regular season with a narrow 320-315 victory over the Carol Stream Dolphins in a July 1 meet at the Fountain View Recreation Center in Carol Stream.

The Waves who won three individual events during the indoor meet in Carol Stream included Jack Kueking, who swam to three first-place finishes in the 9-10 boys level. He earned his victories in the 100-yard freestyle, which he completed in 1 minute, 16.93 seconds; the 50-yard butterfly, which he swam in 37.31 seconds; and the 50-yard backstroke (43.10).

Lombard’s Connor Wedel won three races in the 13-14 boys division during the regular-season finale against the Dolphins. After winning the 50-yard freestyle (26.39), he added victories in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.96) and the 50-yard breaststroke (35.27).

Zola Nowicki provided the Waves with three wins in the 15-18 girls level. She delivered first-place performances in the 50-yard freestyle (29.35), the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.98) and the 50-yard backstroke (34.08).

Lombard’s two-time individual champions in the July 1 meet in Carol Stream included William Balgemann, who won the 25-yard freestyle (19.59) and the 25-yard breaststroke (30.57) in the 8-and-under boys level. Samson Norman of the Waves also won two events in the 8-and-under boys division, turning in first-place efforts in the 25-yard butterfly (19.06) and the 25-yard backstroke (19.93).

Mila Avila of the Waves won two races in the 9-10 girls division with her swims in the 100-yard individual medley (1:34.42) and the 50-yard breaststroke (47.64). Avery Norman of Lombard also earned two victories in the 9-10 girls level. She won the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.80) and the 50-yard butterfly (35.36).

Tahila Santarromana helped the Waves to their victory over Carol Stream by winning two races in the meet’s 11-12 girls level. She won the 50-yard butterfly (35.35) and the 50-yard breaststroke (41.95). Evan McNulty of Lombard won the 100-yard freestyle (1:14.12) and the 50-yard breaststroke (37.26) in the 11-12 boys division.

Emily Olsen of the Waves won the 50-yard freestyle (29.05) and the 50-yard backstroke (35.15) in the 13-14 girls division. Lombard’s Adriano Bifero won the 50-yard freestyle (25.21) and the 50-yard breaststroke (30.74) in the 15-18 boys level.

Lombard’s other individual champions in the meet at Carol Stream included Teagan Santarromana (8-and-under girls; 25-yard breaststroke; 31.91), Joey Hitzker (8-and-under boys; 50-yard freestyle; 42.67), Daniel Petrine (9-10 boys; 50-yard freestyle; 39.11), Amaris Ali (9-10 girls; 50-yard backstroke; 47.67), Cooper Wedel (11-12 boys; 50-yard freestyle; 34.17), Ali Siddiqui (11-12 boys; 50-yard backstroke; 43.66), Caitlin Hageman (15-18 girls; 50-yard butterfly; 34.39), Abigail Bates (15-18 girls; 50-yard breaststroke; 43.69) and Marco Garavito (15-18 boys; 50-yard backstroke; 29.04).

Lombard’s winning relay teams in the July 1 meet against Carol Stream included the 11-12 boys foursome of John Nelson, Evan McNulty, Cooper Wedel and Jimmy Cali. The four boys won two relay events during the meet. After winning the 200-yard medley relay (2:39.86) early in the meet, they added another first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:23.25) near the end of the competition.

The Waves’ 8-and-under girls foursome of Hannah DeKoekkoek, Isabella Vasquez, Teagan Santarromana and Piper Nelson won the 100-yard freestyle relay (1:30.68). Lombard’s 8-and-under boys squad of Joey Hitzker, William Balgemann, Samson Norman and Bronson Avila won the 100-yard medley relay (1:34.68).

Lombard’s 9-10 girls foursome of Avery Norman, Parker Bergman, Amaris Ali and Claire Wedel won the 200-yard medley relay (3:01.11). Natalie Rogers joined Claire Wedel, Amaris Ali and Avery Norman to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:38.14).

The Waves’ 15-18 girls quartet of Caitlin Hageman, Cate Ford, Abigail Bates and Zola Nowicki won the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:12.76). Lombard’s 15-18 boys lineup of Marco Garavito, Adriano Bifero, Benjamin Bates and Quentin Medinger won the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.07).

Some Waves will complete the 2026 season by swimming in the DuPage Swim and Dive Conference’s Red Division ‘B’ Meet, which will take place in Bartlett Saturday, July 11. Other Waves will close out the season by competing in the Red Division ‘A’ Meet, which takes place July 18 at Glendale Heights. The Waves are one of six teams in the Red Division. The division’s other teams are Bartlett, Butterfield, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park and Wood Dale/Addison.
