EMH Foundation awards $20,500 in scholarships to teen volunteers

The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (EMH) Foundation recently awarded $20,500 in Teen Volunteer Health Profession Scholarships to seven area high school students who volunteer at Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital and plan to pursue careers in a health-related field. The funds for the grants, which range from $2,500-$4,000, were raised through the Foundation’s annual Reindeer Route Housewalk and community donations. The recipients are (from left) Kim Darey, MD (President, Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital), Savannah Gutierrez (Lombard), Marilyn Graber Award Winner for pursuing a career in Nursing (Berkeley), Erin Horn (Elmhurst), Sophyia Sendelbach (Elmhurst), Akshaya Achanta (Bloomingdale), Teah Navarro (Elmhurst), Ariya Shah (Elmhurst), Uzair Wahab (Lombard), Valerie Cahill (Scholarship Committee chair) and Susan Tyburski (Executive Director, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation). Elmhurst Hospital teen volunteers must meet a rigorous set of criteria to qualify for a scholarship, including scholastic achievements, accumulated hours of volunteer service in the hospital, strong performance evaluations from the Volunteer Department, community service and pursuit of a career in a health-related field.
