The Timothy Christian girls volleyball team placed second at the recent Manteno Varsity Invitational.
The Trojans went 3-1 there to improve to 17-4 overall. Timothy downed St. Thomas More 25-20, 25-14, Crete Monee 25-8, 25-16 and Coal City 25-12, 25-16 to go 3-0 in pool play.
The Trojans then dropped a 17-25, 25-12, 15-11 match to Manteno in the championship.
Sophie Kwak and Audrey Williams were named to the Manteno all-tournament team.
For the tournament, Mia VanHekken had 27 kills, five aces and 19 digs, while Williams had 10 kills, four aces, two blocks and 10 digs. Maddie Rudman finished with 32 kills, three aces and 18 digs. Avery Tazelaar had five kills and two blocks. Peyton Dorsey finished with 11 kills and one block, while Kwak had 85 assists, 21 digs, eight aces and five kills. Kate Vogelzang had five aces, seven assists and 41 digs. Alexis Brandsma had five aces and 17 digs.
In earlier action, the Trojans downed Chicago Christian 25-16, 25-20 to open Chicagoland Christian Conference play. Williams had 10 kills and three aces. Rudman finished with six kills, two digs and one ace. VanHekken had five kills and six digs, while Tazelaar had two digs, one kill and one block. Dorsey had two digs. Kwak finished with 21 assists, five digs and three aces. Vogelzang had nine digs and two aces, while Brandsma had three digs and two aces.
The Trojans moved to 2-0 in CCC play with a 25-11, 25-18 win over Woodstock Marian Central Catholic. Williams had eight kills and one ace. Rudman had four kills and one ace, while VanHekken had six kills, seven digs and one ace. Dorsey had three kills and two digs, while Kwak had 19 assists, three digs and one ace. Vogelzang had five digs and one ace. Brandsma had 10 digs and one ace and Bella Romano had one ace and one block.
