Timothy Christian girls volleyball team second at Evergreen Park

The Timothy Christian girls volleyball team took second at the recent Evergreen Park tournament.

In the championship bracket, the Trojans (10-3) defeated Evergreen Park 25-22, 25-18 in the semifinals and lost to Burbank St. Laurence 25-16, 25-19 in the final.

Sophie Kwak, Mia VanHekken and Audrey Williams were named to the all-tournament team.

In those two matches, VanHekken had 13 kills, 12 digs and one ace, while Audrey Williams had three kills and three blocks. Maddie Rudman had six kills, four aces and five digs. Avery Tazelaar had four kills and two blocks. Peyton Dorsey had three kills and one block. Sophie Kwak had 26 assists, 12 digs, two kills, three blocks and one ace. Kate Vogelzang had 13 digs and two aces, while Alexis Brandsma had seven digs and two aces.

In earlier pool play, Timothy defeated Chicago University High 25-19, 25-21, Oak Lawn Richards 25-13, 25-14 and Oak Park Fenwick 25-14, 25-12.

In those three matches, VanHekken had 24 kills, 19 digs and five aces. Williams had 14 kills, eight digs, four aces and four blocks. Rudman registered 18 kills, 21 digs and two aces, while Tazelaar had eight kills and three blocks. Dorsey finished with six kills and two blocks. Kwak had 61 assists, 11 digs, three aces and three kills. Vogelzang had 14 digs and five aces, while Brandsma had five digs and two aces.

In non-conference play, the Trojans also downed Wheaton St. Francis 25-20, 23-25, 25-19. VanHekken had 11 kills and seven digs. Williams had 10 kills and two digs, while Rudman had 10 kills, 13 digs and one ace. Tazelaar had three kills and one block. Dorsey finished with seven kills and one block, while Kwak had 39 assists, 13 digs, three aces and one kill. Vogelzang had seven digs and three aces and Brandsma had four digs and one ace.
