Veteran Timothy Christian girls track and field coach Kevin Hackert presented a math problem.

And the numbers added up to a dominating Trojans performance in winning the recent Walther Christian Invitational team championship in a meet hosted at Timothy Christian in Elmhurst.

Timothy won the meet with 194 points. Chicago DePaul College Prep was a distant second with 113 points.

“There are only 17 events, so to score 194 points, we averaged more than one person scoring per event,” Hackert explained. “In a commanding performance from start to finish, we rose above a competitive field, showcasing both their depth and standout individual events.”

Hackert noted Timothy placed in every event.

“We had highlights across every event from field to distance to sprints,” he said.

Kiara Holmes won both the 100 and 200 dashes.

Maddie Rudman and Mia VanHekken took first and second in the shot put, while Lyla Plaisier and Ella Potoshnick took first and second respectively in the 3,200 run.

“I am not sure I have ever coached such a versatile team,” Hackert said.  “The quality of depth helped the team win the meet.”

Holmes won the 100 in 12.74. Freshman Peyton Dorsey was ninth in 14.00.

Holmes ran 26.22 in the 200 and won the title by almost a full second. Junior Leah Friend was sixth in 27.83.

Freshman Sophie Cross was fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:06.59, while junior Grace Plasman was fifth with a time of 1:08.82.

Sophomore Maddie Turner was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:41.36.

Plaisier, a freshman, won the 1,600 run in 5:27.78 (second place was 5:37.82). Sophomore Addison Butler was fourth at 5:52.39.

Plaisier also won the 3,200 in 11:41.64, while Potoshnick was second at 12:09.20. Junior Avery Tazelaar won the 100 hurdles in 18.87, while sophomore Chyler Drechsel was fourth at 20.44.

Junior Lily Dishman was second in the 300 hurdles in 53.35, while Drechsel was third at 55.52.

The Trojans were second in the 400 relay at 51.43 with Anneliese Hopp, Angelina Molina, Friend and Holmes running that race. Timothy took second in the 800 relay with Hopp, Friend, Maria Pozdol-Niego and Eden Moore running 1:53.72.

Timothy also captured second place in the 1,600 relay with Moore, Dishman, Elizabeth Alex and Hopp running 4:27.04.

The Trojans logged their fourth second-place relay finish in the 3,200 relay with Moore, Bella Hackert, Chloe Wilgenburg and Butler running 10:41.03.

In the field events, Rudman won the shot put with a mark of 33-6 3/4, while VanHekken was second at 30-8 1/2.

VanHekken took first place in the discus with a throw of 83-10, while freshman Anneke Tameling was sixth at 58-6.

Junior Brianna Pasek was second in the high jump at 4-7 3/4, while freshman Norah Brehm tied for fifth at 4-4. Senior Georgie Romano took second in the long jump with a mark of 15-9 3/4, while Dorsey was seventh at 14-6.

Pasek was second in the triple jump at 30-9 1/4, while sophomore Jada Blackmon was fourth at 29-11 1/2.

“I am very proud of these girls,” Hackert said. “They have been working hard all season and so many of them are seeing the fruit of that labor. Being able to win this meet, on our home track, will obviously be a highlight of the season. That being said, we still have more to do.”

Timothy competes in the Chicagoland Christian Conference meet this week.
