Cleanup of tree debris—through both the Village of Lombard and private companies— continues in the aftermath of the Monday, July 27, storm, which brought gusts of wind that exceeded 60 mph, according to Lombard Public Works Director Carl Goldsmith. “We have had personnel working six days a week and up to 12 hours per day,” he said. A total of 1,400 straight hours and 660 overtime hours have been dedicated to the storm clean up so far as of Tuesday, Aug. 18, according Goldsmith’s updated figures. He said forestry crews are also working on the cleanup, adding that there was more tree damage from the Sunday, Aug. 9, storm. According to the director, “There are 146 centerline miles of roadways in Lombard and 278 total lane miles of roadways in Lombard,” so crews are surveying where the damaged trees are in order to pick up any remaining debris.
