Red-hot Warriors win 11th straight

The Willowbrook baseball team ran its winning streak to 11 games by posting four victories last week. The 11 straight victories pushed the Warriors’ overall season record to 12-4.

The Warriors moved to 6-0 in West Suburban Gold Conference play by sweeping last week’s three-game series against Hinsdale South. Willowbrook finished the week with Saturday’s 12-2 five-inning home win over Proviso West.

Willowbrook is squaring off against its chief West Suburban Gold rival—Downers Grove South—in this week’s three-game conference series.

The Warriors opened their series against Hinsdale South with a 3-0 road victory on April 13. One day later, Willowbrook beat the Hornets 12-6 in Villa Park. The Warriors completed the series sweep with a 9-0 triumph at Hinsdale South on April 16.

Willowbrook senior Noah Edison pitched the first five innings of the series opener against the Hornets. He earned a victory after recording 10 strikeouts and allowing four hits and two walks. Senior Jory Crocker pitched the final two innings for the Warriors and earned a save. Crocker, who set the side down in order in both innings, struck out one batter in the sixth inning and added two more strikeouts in the seventh inning.

Willowbrook scored its first run of the game on a Hinsdale South error in the top of the second inning. The Warriors picked up two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Senior Alex Ramey singled to drive in that inning to give Willowbrook a 2-0 lead. Senior Alex Dew hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to extend the Warriors’ lead to 3-0.

Crocker went 2-for-4 with a home run and drove in four runs in Willowbrook’s 12-6 win over the Hornets in Villa Park on April 14. Crocker bashed a three-run homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth inning. His blast raised the Warriors’ lead to 10-4.

Junior Alex Rodriguez went 3-for-4 and drove in one run for the Warriors’ in their home win over Hinsdale South. Ramey, Dew and senior Jake Bonino provided two hits each.

Junior Mikey Garner earned the win for Willowbrook in the April 14 contest after pitching the first five innings and allowing three runs, six hits and two walks. He struck out four batters.

Senior Bobby Biggs fired a complete-game shutout for the Warriors in the series finale against the Hornets. Biggs struck out 10 batters in seven innings. He allowed four hits and one walk.

Ramey went 2-for-4 with a home run and drove in five runs in Willowbrook’s April 16 victory at Hinsdale South. Ramey launched a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning. He added a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning. Ramey picked up his first RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning.

Rodriguez went 3-for-4 for the Warriors in the final game of their series with the Hornets. Dew went 2-for-2 and scored one run.

Bonino, who is Willowbrook’s leadoff hitter, went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles in Saturday’s win over Proviso West. He scored four runs and drove in one run in the victory. Senior Ryan Dasbach went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Senior Jacob Bylsma went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs. Senior Connor Spears also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Senior David Sullivan pitched four innings and earned the win for the Warriors on Saturday. He allowed two runs, four hits and three walks while recording five strikeouts. Bylsma pitched a scoreless fifth inning to close out the victory.
