Rain can’t wash out Independence Day spirit

Posted

Rain and thunderstorms cancelled many fireworks shows throughout the area over the Fourth of July weekend—including the annual fireworks show at Madison Meadow Park, which was to have taken place Saturday evening. But Mother Nature couldn’t stop this Fourth of July celebration outside of a home located on S. Chase Avenue on Saturday. The fireworks show will be rescheduled. Madison Meadow Park received approximately 4.52 inches of rainfall between July 2 and July 4, leaving park grounds deeply saturated with multiple areas of standing water, making the site unsuitable for a large public gathering. The village's fireworks contractor also determined that ground conditions were too saturated to safely move the trucks and equipment needed to set up the display. (Photo by Jim Waters)
