The Bensenville Park District invites families, friends and movie lovers to enjoy a free outdoor screening of "Selena" at dusk Saturday, Aug. 1, at Krempels Park, located at the intersection of Jacquelyn, Dennis and Dolores drives in Bensenville.
No registration is required. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and their favorite movie snacks for an evening under the stars.
Based on the inspiring true story of Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, "Selena" follows the singer's rise from performing with her family's band to becoming one of the most celebrated Latin artists of her generation. The film chronicles her determination, close-knit family relationships and growing success before her life was tragically cut short at the height of her career.
The 1997 biographical drama stars Jennifer Lopez in the title role, alongside Edward James Olmos as Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., Constance Marie as her mother, Marcella Quintanilla, and Jon Seda as her husband and guitarist, Chris Pérez.
"The Movies in the Park series is a wonderful way for neighbors to come together, relax and enjoy a memorable evening outdoors," said Anne Popek, superintendent of recreation for the Bensenville Park District. "We're excited to share the inspiring story of Selena with the community in one of Bensenville's beautiful neighborhood parks."
The free movie is part of the Bensenville Park District's summer Movies in the Park series, offering family-friendly entertainment in local parks throughout the season.
