Posted

Michael J. Horina, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, at his home in Villa Park, Illinois.

Born on August 31, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Michael was the dear son of the late Jean and John Horina, and fond brother of the late Carolyn Horina.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty Horina; his children, Michael (Robin) Horina, Elizabeth Cavazos, and Susan (Altai) Negaty; his grandchildren, Anne Horina, Andrew (Lauren) Heath, Matthew Heath, Stephanie Cavazos, Melissa Horina, Joey Cavazos, and Kevin Cavazos; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Walter, and Bettie Lu Heath; and many nieces and nephews.

Michael will be remembered for his generous spirit, fun personality, and incredible love for his family. He was the kind of person who would do anything for the people he loved, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them.

He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox, cheering on his teams through every season. A devoted grandfather, Papa Mike rarely missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren's sporting and life achievement events.

Some of Michael's happiest moments were the simple ones: a cold beer in hand, a BBQ with family, and laughter shared between them. He also had a passion for history, spending countless hours building detailed models of World War II airplanes. Through this hobby, he became a proud member of the Sprue Stretchers modeling club.

Michael graduated from De La Salle High School in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood and soon began a long, successful career. As a proud union pressman and foreman, he worked from the age of 18 until his retirement at 65.

Above all, Michael's legacy is one of love, loyalty, and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the family and friends who were fortunate to share in his life.
