Lombard Police Department announces distracted driving enforcement results

Posted

The Lombard Police Department conducted a distracted driving enforcement campaign in April focused on reducing crashes caused by drivers using mobile devices. During the campaign, officers issued 346 citations for violations of the Illinois’ hands-free cellphone law.

In addition to distracted driving enforcement, Lombard officers issued citations for other traffic violations, including:

  • 31 seatbelt citations
  • 32 child seat safety citations
  • 21 speeding citations
  • 57 other citations (moving and non-moving)
  • 10 traffic-related arrests (no valid, suspended or revoked driver’s licenses)
  • 2 warrant arrests
  • 2 criminal arrests
  • 2 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests

“Distracted driving often feels like a quick glance, but it can have serious consequences,” said Police Lieutenant Tom Balsitis. “We want drivers to stay focused, put the phone down and give their full attention to the road.”

The Lombard Police Department partnered with the Illinois State Police, local law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners as part of this enforcement effort.

The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
