The IC Catholic Prep football team moved to 3-0 after a close 22-15 Chicago Catholic League crossover win at Chicago St. Ignatius.
The Knights were tied for the No. 1 ranking in the state in Class 3A with Byron in the most recent Illinois Media poll. Both teams had 132 points and seven first-place votes each.
ICCP’s defense registered 15 tackles for loss in the ballgame, four quarterback sacks and intercepted two Ignatius passes.
Junior Grant Bowen had eight tackles and one tackle for loss, while junior Will Schmidt had seven tackles and two tackles for loss. Sophomore Donnel Sallis had seven tackles and one tackle for loss. Senior KJ Reese had six tackles and one tackle for loss, as did senior Anthony Carroccio. Senior Romeo Woods had six tackles and one tackle for loss.
Junior Gabriel Lisowiec had three tackles for loss and two quarterback sacks.
Senior Anthony Sebastian and senior Josh Shaw each had one sack, while senior Mikey Carter had one quarterback hurry.
Bowen and Sallis each intercepted a pass with Bowen returning his 25 yards.
Offensively, senior quarterback Nathan Lang was 16-for-24 for 210 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore running back Jakobe Baldwin ran 13 times for 143 yards and a touchdown. He also ran in a two-point conversion.
Lang completed passes to six different receivers. Senior Jaden Penna caught four passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Schmidt caught four passes for 19 yards. Bowen caught three passes for 39 yards. Baldwin had two catches for 38 yards, while Carroccio had two catches for 15 yards. Sallis had two catches for 19 yards.
Senior Quai McGee had 35 total return yards.
The Knights host Chicago DePaul College Prep on Friday, Sept. 11, in another Chicago Catholic League crossover game.
