George F. Zelazny, 86

George F. Zelazny, 86, longtime Lombard resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 20, 2026.

George was the beloved husband of Fran Zelazny (Nelson) for 61 years. They met as children in the neighborhood, began dating after college, and were married on Oct. 16, 1965, at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Chicago.

George and Fran were blessed with three children: Mark (Glenda) Zelazny, Philip (Wendy) Zelazny, and Lori (Sean Smith) Zelazny. He was the proud grandfather of Tyler Zelazny, Adam Zelazny, Miranda Zelazny, Kristopher Smith, Nicklous Smith, Cody Zelazny, and Jules Zelazny.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clara Zelazny, and his brother, John Jasinski.

George was a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he taught religious education for more than 50 years. He also faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister, giving generously of his time and faith to his parish community.

George was a Product Safety Engineer for Sears Roebuck, where he worked for 45 years.

A devoted sports fan, George played 16” softball in his younger years, handball into his 80s. Loved Chicago sports teams, Bears season ticket holder when they played in Wrigley and countless bleacher Cubs games.

George and Fran enjoyed traveling together and made many wonderful memories on vacations. Enjoyed dancing many New Year’s Eve at Willowbrook Ballroom. He also enjoyed playing cards on weekends with family and friends.

Above all, George adored his seven grandchildren and took great joy in attending their many events, activities, and milestones. His family was the center of his life, and he will be remembered for his devotion to them, his strong faith, his helpful nature, and the many years he dedicated to his church and community.

George will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

A Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, from 3-9 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral Prayers were held Wednesday, Sept. 30, from Brust Funeral Home to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment followed at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
