A Franklin Park man who committed six bank robberies, including two in Elmhurst, was recently sentenced to 14 years in federal prison.

German Campos Jr., 26, committed the robberies in a 10-month period from October 2023 to August 2024. He robbed the U.S. Bank at 536 S. York Street on two occasions, once on Dec. 16, 2023, and again on June 13, 2024.

Campos also committed two bank robberies at the U.S. Bank at 60 S. Meacham Road in Schaumburg. Additionally, he robbed a BMO Bank in Park Ridge and a U.S. Bank in Niles.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, Campos brandished a gun at bank tellers and customers in five of the six robberies.

Campos was arrested on Sept. 17, 2024, and has remained in law enforcement custody since then. In March 2026, Campos pleaded guilty to federal bank and firearm charges. On July 29, U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin sentenced Campos to 14 years in federal prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that several law enforcement agencies, including the Elmhurst Police Department, provided substantial assistance in the investigation that led to Campos’ arrest.

“[The] defendant’s repeated use of a gun during robberies, including pointing that gun into victims’ faces over and over again, posed a significant threat to the safety of the bank employees, customers, and general public,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie C. Stern argued in the government’s sentencing memorandum. “The only reason why [the] defendant stopped his violent robbery spree was because he was finally caught after 10 months of terrorizing bank employees and customers.”
