Facchini and Romero win their first two matches at the state meet

Rams’ doubles team loses to the eventual state-champion tandem in the third round

The Glenbard East badminton team’s doubles duo of juniors Betsy Facchini and Daniela Romero won their first two matches at the IHSA state meet, which took place on Friday and Saturday at DeKalb High School.

The state tournament featured 64 singles players and 64 doubles teams.

Facchini and Romero advanced to the round of 16 after opening the event with two victories. The two Rams lost their next match to the eventual state-champion doubles team—a duo from Stevenson High School. Facchini and Romero then won one match in the consolation round before exiting the event with a loss in their next match.

Senior Sam King of Glenbard East won her first-round singles match at the state meet before losing her next two matches. The Rams’ doubles tandem of juniors Marija Cheeks and Tailor Washick lost in the first round. Cheeks and Washick then picked up one win in the consolation round before finishing the tournament with a loss.

Maisie Thompson of the Warriors competes in singles action at the state meet

Willowbrook senior Maisie Thompson competed in singles play at the state meet. After losing her first-round match, Thompson finished the event with a three-game loss in the consolation round.
