Members of the Elmhurst City Council recently saluted City Manager Jim Grabowski. Grabowski’s retirement is effective Aug. 2. Near the end of the Elmhurst City Council’s July 20 meeting, Mayor Scott Levin joined aldermen and staff members to honor Grabowski. Levin noted that it is a tradition for the City Council to present a rocking chair to aldermen and city managers when they retire. Grabowski has been Elmhurst’s City Manager for 15 years, since July 2011. The July 20 City Council meeting marked the final such meeting of his tenure. Council members praised Grabowski for his patience, integrity, and effective communication in what some of them described as a 24/7 position. “You’ve done a great job,” said Levin, who described Grabowski as a valued member of the community. “I very much appreciate all the kind words,” stated Grabowski. “It’s really phenomenal to hear that. Serving the residents of Elmhurst has been a privilege and the absolute highlight of my career.” Grabowski thanked his family, City Council members, and Elmhurst’s municipal employees before sitting in the rocking chair.
