The City of Elmhurst is excited to launch its first-ever Citywide Garage Sale during the weekend of Oct. 3-4. The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
“This pilot program encourages residents to reuse household items, reduce waste, and connect with neighbors while welcoming shoppers from across the community,” stated the City of Elmhurst in announcing the event.
Participation is free, but registration is required to be included on the official participant map, which will be promoted across the City’s communications channels. The deadline to register is Friday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m.
Participation is free and voluntary. No garage sale permit is required for registered participants. Registration is for the full Citywide Garage Sale weekend. Participants are encouraged to be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4, to provide a consistent experience for shoppers. Sales may operate only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Temporary garage sale signs may only be placed on your own private property. Signs are not permitted in the public right-of-way or on other public property. City regulations regarding parking, traffic, noise, and public safety remain in effect.
Prior to the event, the City of Elmhurst will publish an interactive map and printable list of participating homes.
The City of Elmhurst serves only as the coordinator and promoter of this event. All garage sales are conducted on private property, and all transactions occur between private parties. The City assumes no responsibility for individual sales, merchandise, property conditions, injuries, losses, or disputes arising from participation.
