Chicago House soccer wins national recognition

Posted

On Friday, July 24, the Chicago House men’s soccer team traveled to Milwaukee to compete in the Final Four of the United States National Amateur Cup Tournament.

The match on Friday featured the Chicago House (Region 2 Midwest Champions) vs. El Farolito (Region 4 West Champions), the tournament favorite from San Francisco. The match saw House goalkeeper, Ryan Grady, come up with tremendous saves to keep the House in the match, but in the end, House dropped the very competitive game 2-0.

The Chicago House didn’t have much time to recover when they took the field at Uihlein Soccer Park for the battle for third place in the nation the very next day vs the Tar Devils SC from North Carolina.

The House took a 2-0 lead into half time against the Region 3 South champions. When play resumed, the Tar Devils, playing for their tournament life, evened the score at 2-2 in the 63rd minute.

Things continued to go the Tar Devils’ way in the 69th minute when the House was issued a red card. However, with only 10 men, the Chicago House were not to be denied and scored twice to finish the game 4-2 and take the third-place place trophy and national recognition.

The House awarded the player of the match to midfielder, Jake Lane, who scored three goals to lead the House to the win.

In other Chicago House news, the team returned to Langhorst Field at Elmhurst University on Sunday, July 26, to face off against Cedar Rapids Inferno in an important Midwest Premier League match. The pregame activities treated House fans to the presentation of the US National Amateur Cup Tournament third-place trophy. Additionally, the ceremonial first kick featured Shabbir and Fatema Chandabhai, owners of JKK Printing, a popular Elmhurst business and a proud community partner of the Chicago House.

The Chicago House men will finish up their Midwest Premier League play on the road Aug. 8 vs. league rival AFC Roscoe.
