Willowbrook High School’s football team opened its 2026 season with an Aug. 21 home game against the Glenbard East Rams. The Warriors led the visiting Rams 13-6 with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter when flashes of lightning caused a 50-minute delay. After play resumed, Glenbard East scored a touchdown and added the extra-point kick in the final minute of the fourth quarter to force an overtime period. The lightning had cleared the area, but there was still electricity in the air in Villa Park when Willowbrook went on to beat the Rams 20-13 in the contest, which ended at 11:16 p.m.
